Blog 10 - Interview 2 Reflection

1. Please explain how you are spending your mentorship time (Is it at a workplace or somewhere else?  Are you shadowing?  Are you able to do tasks that are meaningfully related to the topic?  If so, what?  Are there other people who are experts in the location?  Etc...)
My mentorship takes place at a workplace. I go to my mentor's office whenever we meet. She has given me a book with a ton of disorders, and lately I've been taking notes on everything I find and I discuss it with her next time I see her. It's just her and me, but I think I am gaining knowledge of these different disorders.

2.  How did you find your mentor?  How did you convince this person to help you?

I found my mentor on goodtherapy.org. I got her information off the website and sent her an email and left her a voicemail. She returned my call, and I told her what I was doing for senior project and how I needed a mentor, she then agreed she'd be able to help me.

3. How would you rate your comfort level with your mentor at this point in your relationship?  How does this relate to the time you've spent so far at mentorship/with this person

My comfort level is pretty good with my mentor. She helps me understand things I don't quite understand and helps by figuring out things we can do in terms of assignments since it is a confidential field.

4. What went well in this interview?  Why do you think so?  What do you still need to improve?  How do you know?  How will you go about it?

I believe I was able to understand my mentor's background a bit more. She did a very good job at answering my questions, and it gave me an idea of what I can do in this field since I do want to go in this same path. There isn't really much improvement we need yet. So far things are going good.

Blog 9 - Advisory Prep 3

1. State whether or not you currently have a mentor, and what the status of your interview is with that person (I have completed the interview, I have scheduled the interview, I have not scheduled the interview, etc).

I currently have a mentor, and we've already completed the interview.

2. At this point, your research is probably guiding your studies toward more specific areas within your topic.  Name the area or two you find most promising and explain your reasons.

My overall view within the psychology topic is adolescence. I have been focusing more towards the developmental, anxiety, and depression aspect of it.

3. What kinds of sources do you think will help you in the next month to gain more research depth?  Where will you go to get them?

I think books will be good sources for me to look into. I would ask my mentor for these, or I'll look into the library.

4. Write down a possible EQ.  Please don't worry about wording other than ensuring that it provides the option for multiple correct answers.  At this point, the senior team is most interested in understanding your thought process.

What is the best possible way you can try and understand your patient, so that you can better help them?

Blog 8 - Independent Component 1 Proposal

1.  Describe in detail what you plan to do for your 30 hours.

For my independent component I plan on mentoring at a Big Brother Big Sister organization. Within those 30 hours I plan on acting as a big sister to an assigned child and help her with any little thing she may need help with. I plan to devote my time to her and make her feel happy and better about herself in any way possible.

2.  Discuss how or what you will do to meet the expectation of showing 30 hours of evidence.

I will have the organization sign off hours I will be getting done as well as take pictures while I am with my "little sister".

3.  Explain how what you will be doing will help you explore your topic in more depth.

This will help me explore my topic in more depth because since I am working on adolescent psychology, I feel like acting as a mentor/big sister for another person my age who might be struggling a bit themselves might help me see what it's really like. This is a good way in my opinion to get hands on experience.

4.  Update your Senior Project Hours log.
